Tips for Getting Ready Photos on Wedding Day

If you’ve chosen to have your photographer and/or videographer capture some Getting Ready photos the morning of your wedding, you’re in good company! Many of our brides opt for this, but it does take a little bit of planning and preparation to make sure it’s a smooth and seamless process. Here are some helpful tips to get you started off on the right foot.

1. Make sure you’ve booked at least 8 hours of photography

When including getting ready photos, we recommend booking your photographer for a minimum of 8 hours. This ensures time for these photos, and photography for the rest of the day leading up to the end of your formal reception program. Note: if there are a lot of activities during the day, you may need to add more hours of shooting time.

2. Ample space is best, if possible!

If you’re planning to include your bridal party in these photos, then it’s ideal to have the biggest space possible for these photos. Keep in mind too that if glam is taking place in the same space, you will need a larger room anyway. When booking a hotel, try to book the largest room possible, or two connected rooms.

3. Organize everything you want photographed ahead of time

Items like invitation suites, rings, vow books, jewelry etc. should be kept in a box or bin and put aside somewhere so it’s ready when photo/video arrives. Anything worn such as your dress, veil, shoes etc. should also be kept aside.

4. Tidy up your room

Your media team needs a clean & neat space to shoot effectively and efficiently. PRO TIP: Assign one or two from your bridal party to be in charge of tidying up the room 30 minutes before photo & video arrival.

5. Schedule Photo & Video arrival toward the end of glam or once glam is done

The photographer doesn’t need to shoot you actually getting glammed up (unless this is something specific you want). Scheduling them to arrive at the end of glam time ensures the most efficient use of their time with you that day.
